5 of 5 Stars!
This is a pretty good heatshield and very simple to install. It fits snuggly to many 12 gauge barrels and when installed correctly has very litltle flex. Some people say they are noisy But when done right makes no clanking sound at all and who has ever heard or a quite shotgun lol. The finish is a black powder coat on sheet steel. It uses the oval vent's which I think looks better than the circular vents found on the mossberg line of heat shield's. Alot of people install heat shields as a cool factor for their shot gun but heat shields have more to offer than cool looks alone. If you've ever shot skeet for a hour straight you will know what those offers are. Shotgun barrels can get pretty hot with extended use, hot enough to melt the foam in your gun case to the barrel and give 3rd degree burns on your back and shoulder while slinging it. Thats what a heatshield prevents. To install on your mossberg 500 or most other models you will need the following tools... 1) large pliers, RoboGrips with the rubber tooth protectors are recommended. If you dont have the large robogrips on hand make sure to wrap the teeth of your pliers in a layer or 2 of electrical tape to avoid scratching the finish of your heatshield. 2)7/64 allen wrench 3)5/16 socket with ratchet. start by unlocking the action and pulling the pump half way back, check to make sure there is no shell in the mag tube or chamber then loosen the barrel lug and remove the barrel (it is recommended to have the bolt half back when changing or removing barrels to prevent damage). Fit the end of the heatshield with the 2 holes behind the crossbar/barrel lug assy (note: my shotgun has a 5 shell magazine higher or lower magazines may fit differently) Next fit the larger end of the heatshield over the chamber end of your barrel. This next part is not in the included instructions but important to get a uniform fit. While holding the heatshield to the barrel carefully drop the barrel into the reciever and fully tighten the barrel lug. when fully tightened square up the end of the heatshield to the reciever then place the two bolts into the holes in front of the heatshield (you may need to bend the tabs together alittle to get them through) and start the nuts. while holding the heatshield square and straight to the reciever tighten the nuts snugg. If you are happy with the placement remove the barrel again and use your PROTECTED large pliers to bend the tabs into the barrel. You are now done (",) I give this heatshield 10 out of 10!!!..
