It would be better to wait for the Marlin 39A before you purchase this one. The typical Browning quality is NOT there. Some of the issues are: the lever does not close tight like a Marlin, The barrel is too short (my mistake) and you will have difficulty finding a good set of rings if you want to mount a scope. I tried 4 sets before I was succesful. The 3/8 grove for rings are too shallow and sharp. Most rings made for 3/8 (Leupold, Millet and Burris) won't grip securly. The one that did work was a Bass Pro Redhead. The grips were real sharp and it fit well.
If you don't need a scope, the rifle is still good for plinking/ target shooting. If you want a lever action stick with 1. Marlin or 2. Henry.
