"Defenders of Freedom" is a 501 c 3 non profit organization with the purpose of raising money to support our troops who are currently deployed around the world. Because our troops are actively working to keep America safe, "Defenders of Freedom" believe passionately in showing them as much support as possible.

100% of the profits are used to:

  • Send "support boxes" to our men and women in uniform
  • Support wounded soldiers with encouragement and needed items, especially those with no support
  • Support the families of our wounded soldiers both physically and emotionally
  • Support the USO at DFW Airport
Every day roughly 200 troops arrive at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport to begin their two week R&R leave. A group of "Army Moms" began to gather there daily to greet these soldiers. As an added bonus, these Army Moms have had the honor to greet and bolster the morale of the buddies and fellow soldiers of their own sons and daughters who are involved currently in the war and actively serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. This daily greeting has become an event talked about and anticipated by the troops arriving at DFW on their way home. From this group of "Army Moms" and support from an "Army Families" email support group of one of the moms, evolved the "Defenders of Freedom".

Dear Randy,

If you have ever wondered just what your contribution means to Troops, read these words from LT. Acosta who is currently stationed in Afghanistan.

"Thank you for all the goodies you have sent us, we can't thank you enough for all the support you give us I wanna wish everyone at Defenders of Freedom a prosperous new year 2011 and good health. May God bless each and every one of the volunteers that make all your efforts possible for deployed Soldiers We don't feel too far away from home when a simple note of support lifts our spirits and gives us the strength to finish the mission and return to our loved ones. Let me tell you, what your group does for Soldiers makes a big difference in our morale. Thanks for all the support, from the bottom of my heart!!"

We receive many notes of appreciation from deployed Troops with the same sentiment; it means the world to them to get something from home. For those of us who have never deployed, we simply can't imagine what it means to these Troops to know they are supported. You have helped make a difference in their lives. Additionally, we are impacting wounded Troops around the country with emergency financial assistance.

Defenders of Freedom's pace has picked up quite a bit this past year. Joan Anderson is now shipping the majority of new care package requests we get on our web site. Joan has a passion for getting Troops the items they need. She makes sure everyone is getting what they request while pampering them just a bit with some items they enjoy as well. The personalized care each box receives is genuinely appreciated by the Troops.

Activity for wounded Troops increased quite a bit this past year as well. Working with the Army's Wounded Transition Units (WTU) is increasing. There are 32 WTU's around the country with about 9,000 Soldiers in them. Defenders of Freedom is currently working with four WTU's. Our goal is to work with all 32 as our funding increases. Many of the Troops we are working with have Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from being in explosions from lED's or PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) from the extreme situations they have been in. The roads to recovery are long and hard, many never returning to the lives they once had. Assisting them with financial assistance when they are in crisis helps ease their daily stress, and hopefully conveys to them people do care.

Our goal is to offer opportunities to local wounded Troops; creating a support system for them in the DFW area. This will encourage a network to be formed for the troops they can utilize while building friendships. The skeet shooters group is moving forward continuing to give opportunities to new contacts as we get them. Tim Seckel, a local wounded Veteran, works that program continually.

While we look to the future to see where we want to go I thought it would be good to share with you some of the highlights of 2010 that we were able to undertake.
