I bought one of these about seven years ago for my wife. We lived on a lake and frequently found water mocassins in the yard! She never fired it and left all snake dispatching duties to me. This shotgun, despite the "youth size" tag, suits adults quite well. It is comfortable, handles well and is extremely accurate with shot. I've never tried slugs. Given the bargain price for the quality and the number of snakes, beaver and armadillo this gun has taken, I'd call it a fantastic deal. I have a 12 gauge pump for home defense but don't plan to part with this excellent shooter. Despite minimal care, it has shown no wear and never a single malfunction...

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. The ejector was tight on it at first, but after about ten rounds it loosened up and did fine. There were a couple of very sharp places on the lower receiver area near the pivotpin, but I took some oil and an Arkansas stone and took them down a little to relieve the area so it would not cut my fingers. This is not a big deal because some mega buck pistols I have owned in the past were the same way. It speaks good about precision machining. The shotgun is great just like all of the other H&R products I have owned in the past like my .410 bore Pardner. I was worried with the switch from Gardner,Mass. to the Ilion,New York plant that quality might suffer.I don't think this is the case. The company concentrates on making a robust firearm that stands up to years of use. My ,410 model has a little minor spot in the blueing on the receiver that just gives it character as far as I am concerned. The 20 gauge I just bought has a little minor low place on the stock where the finish is slighly off a little. I don't worry about micro size imperfections in the cosmetics of the finish in the blueing or the stock. I worry about mechanical efficiency and safe operation. This is where this little single shot stands out. I shot clay pigeons with my friends several evenings since I bought the little shotgun. It is a beast when it comes to taking down clay pigeons. It is very accurate when firing slugs. I have a lil homemade laser sight I made that slips on the barrel and can be tightened down without tapping or harming the barrel. The little shotgun fires straight on accurate with good quality slugs at 50-60 yards or so. It is a fantastic deal for the price I paid for it. I owned a .410 bore H&R when I grew up in West Virginia. When I came back home from the war my mom had given it away. I saw one a few months back near my birthday and my wife bought it for me. I walked out of the store with tears in my eyes.It is just as great as the old one I cut my teeth on growing up...
