I bought this gun for home defense as well. I grew up shooting one my father owned, and I've always wanted one. Never have had a problem with any mossberg firearm. I equipped it with a pistol grip. I like the fact that this model allows 8 rounds. The 18.5in. only holds 6 rounds and your only giving up 1.5in. barrel length. It will make you feel better knowing you still got 2 left!..

I Bought this shotgun for home defense. The fact that it holds 8 rounds is awesome. I put a Knoxx spec-ops recoil stock @ tac-star sidesaddle 6-shot on it. Think twice before coming in my house unwanted..
