I was fortunate to have placed my order right here on the Able Ammo WebSite for a COLT "Defender" this past June just as their inventory was being re-stocked, and I am delighted with my purchase. This is the first "1911-type" handgun I have owned (other than an original collector-grade M1911 Government-issue I owned many, many years ago), and it has turned out to be everything that I had hoped. I definitely agree with all of the other "5-star" reviews I have read here and on several other WebSites. I have subsequently ordered two additional spare Colt stainless steel 7-round magazines and (10) 50-round boxes from Able Ammo and been equally pleased. The light weight, balance, and ease of operation make the "DEFENDER" an ideal weapon for self-defense or just plain plinking and target shooting, and the excellent front and rear sights have more than compensated for my aging (73 years and counting) eyes (having had right-eye cataract surgery 3 years ago). I would highly recommend it is a carry weapon because of its compact size and easy-to-grasp rubber wrap-around grips. The "DEFENDER" field-strips quite easily and effortlessly for cleaning, the only difficulty I encountered having been the re-installation of the left-side Slide Stop (just takes a little patience and practice). All-in-all, I would rate it as a definite "5-Star" product.

I shot this firearm in Montana while working on the Eagle Nest Lodge off the Little Bighorn River. Sometimes, I carried it 12 hrs a day. I have all ways wanted one for myself because the one I carried at the time belonged to the Eagel Nest Lodge. I finally have enough to own my own. Sorry to hear they are back ordered,,,

I have recently purchased this firearm, And out of the box shot 100 Rounds LE 230 Gr. Without 1 malfunction. At 8 yards the gun shot 3" low but all within one 3"hole.
After re-adjusting my aim the next 50 rounds the gun shot right on at 8 yards. I shot 2 magazines of Corbon 185gr and at 10 yards placed 3" connecting shots.I have owned Sigs,Kimbers.Browning,Springfield XD,EAA Witness and Colts. This is the most comfortable to shoot with practice and an excellent carry gun with the right holster. Great for defensive carry .

I've had mine for over 10 years. I took the whole thing apart, way further than a novice should do and easily got it back together, with the help of a good diagram. But don't try it yourself unless you know what you are doing. It field strips easily and is very strong and well made, in my opinion. It is very concealable and fairly light weight for being a 45. After firing 100 or 150 rounds it can sometimes jam up slightly, but I've had the same thing happen with other Colts and expensive Colt clones. Must be all that burnt chemical gun power. The only thing I don't like about it is that it has, in my opinion, too much recoil. It has good accuracy for a short barrel gun and is pretty impressive to show to people. Back then I paid around six seventy-five. I'm not a gun expert so I hope this helps. If you like double action this gun is not for you. There are various arrangements for leaving a live round in, but I don't require that feature. Besides, the sound of running the slide back in the course of a self-defense situation could have the effect of causing the aggressor to soil himself.

Not kidding! my defender laid in 10 feet of water for two weeks after fishing mishap(bad carry system).after checking for obstructions,five rounds fired before mag missfed .I love this weapon...
