I have hunted with the 257 Roberts since the early 1960\'s. I have taken many PA whitetails with this caliber. However one needs to have a direct and good placement shot. If you are off your mark, the deer will die a horrible death. The 117 is just that much too lite for a 100/125 lb whitetail. If you hit a twig, the bullet is gone off course. It is essential that your have a very clean shot of your target. Otherwise, it\'s a fine caliber. Additionally, I have taken woodchucks with this caliber during the Summer months as far out as I could see them with a single shot. Shooting on paper is also nice, you don\'t get beat up as you would with a much larger caliber. For deer, it would have been nice if they made it in a 130 grain...
