The 158 grain LHP +P in 38 Special is a round with a long history of performance. This particular loading from Remington is one that I have favored over the years when I served as a police officer before I retired. Specifically speaking, this load works exceptionally well in the snub-nosed revolvers I carried as a backup to my holstered service pistol. A vast majority of Concealed Carry Permit Holders carry these same revolvers daily due to the merits of such a weapon system. Since these revolvers have short barrels for concealment, velocity of the round as it exits is drastically effected. The 158 grain LHP achieves around the 890 fps as advertised, which will offer reliable expansion to the lead hollow point due to the fact there is no brass or bonded jacket surrounding it. Standard 125 grain semi-jacketed hollow points often fail to expand when fired from snub guns because of the lower velocity, and the fact that the brass jackets require a higher velocity to be achieved to expand. Accuracy with this load in snub-nosed revolvers is better than the lighter 110 - 125 grain loads in my experience. Fired from my Ruger SP101 this load groups in a consistent 2 1/2 inches or less at 15 yards. Even though this is a \"old-school\" round it has remained on the shelves of great distributors such as Able because it works. No round will offer a shooter 100% expansion every time due to the numerous variables from shot to shot. This round at close quarters confrontational distances performs at a higher level of efficiency because of its simplicity. One well known gun writer once described the expansion of this round as being like a \"rattle snakes jaws when opened\". I agree with this statement based upon my own experiences, not because he gets paid to write reviews such as this. I have fired this round into a variety of materials and found it performed well enough that I load my SP101 with it. The selection of what ammunition to carry in your defensive arm is always a critical and important decision that you should make only after self study and research. I can only say that this particular loading from Remington is an excellent round that is entirely worthy of your consideration when you make that personal decision...
