Bought this one blued with rosewood grips. Gonna change them to Hogue single piece grip soon. Your grip might slip a bit if you don't hold on. So the Hogue should be at the top of your shopping list along with this blackhawk! I shot only .45 Long Colts with 250 gr ammo so far and its accurate as hell up to about 15 yrds. prob get better after new grips. Mine has the 4+ inch barrel so for me i think long range is not advised. the recoil is lighter than my G30 obviously because its all steel as opposed to polymer framed pistols.
Good target revolver and i feel it could be a very good backup weapon when you're out hunting. u can always get higher grain ammo whether it'd be factory or reloads. from some forums i've visited i read this sumbich can handle higher grain ammo "within reason" with no probs. shoots lead and fmjs, hydrashocks, etc. could be used for carry but i think only if u REALLY know how to handle a single action should u even attempt that. You can dry fire this pistol all u want to get used to the trigger which is smooth to me. Ruger's manual says it will not hurt your Blackhawk nor void warranty. .45 LC ammo compared to .45 ACP ammo pricewise is not that much different so it won't hurt too much to shoot. remember higher grain + defense purposes might mean more money. overall i'm satisfied...
