I was hesitant on buying this handgun after seeing ammo costs around $60-$70 for a box of twenty. But I went ahead and bought it anyway. I reload for it so it really does not cost too much to shoot it, but you have to remember you are launching quite a big piece of lead. I have been to the range with it about half a dozen times or so and it is a very impressive gun. The raw power is a shocker every shot. The recoil is not bad because the muzzle break is enourmous and soaks up most of the recoil. Its accuracy is also very impressive, I would not hesitate to shoot a deer at 75 yards or so with open sight. To me this is a great driving gun through thick bush or a backup gun if I was to drop my rifle at camp...

Received mine as a gift from my bud who hunts with me. Am in love with this hand gun. It will kick the tar out of what ever you hit, is reliable, easy to hand load and will spin a hog around in its tracks, or just plain drop em. Have a number of 44 Rem. mags. They are nice and easy to shoot, but when I go bear hunting the S&W 500 is my back up pistol.
I highly recommend this pistol to anyone who requires the added security of knock down power on what could become dangerous game. It is accurate and powerful, yet easy to shoot. If you can fire a 44 mag then you can handle this one. Smith and Wesson out did themselves this time, love it...

I just want to say that WOW what a nice piece.... this pistol is exactly what you pay for
an all around good quality piece of work. This is my first really big bore caliber gun and i really love it .... a little pricey but it's worth it because you get what you pay for. And just to say DON'T believe what you hear about the kick and recoil ... it's not that bad at all it's just a little bit more than a 44 .. but not bad at all. I would recomend this nice pistol to anyone... oh yeah and by farrrrrrrrrrrrrr it is way better than the 460 . If you spend this kind of money then get the real deal go with the 500 ( you won't regret it )
good luck and have some real fun...................:)..
