I first spent $300 on a Sig Mosquito, sold it and got a nice $380 Buckmark, then went in the hole anopther $500 for a \"target\" tricked-out Ruger Mk II - all in search of better accuracy and because I thought a thousand bucks for the S&W Model 41 was out of my price range. Stupid me. Now all but the Buckmark are long gone, and I happily shoot my Model 41 several times a month. With the iron sights on the M41 and Federal Auto Match ammo I can get 5-shot groups about 5/8\" at 25 yards indoors using a rest. I got a box of expensive match ammo and the best 25-yard groups tightened to 3/8\" - and I\'ve only been shooting 18 months. The light and crisp M41 trigger helps with the accuracy. So save money in the long run buying the best first...

If I could give this gun 6 stars I would. I shoot primarily 9mm handguns and was looking for a .22lr to reduce my costs on ammo. I went back and forth for months between the Ruger Mark III and the Browning Buck Mark. It didn't help that between those two guns there were over 30 choices of models. All of the reviews I read about the two guns sounded like discussions of politics or religion. The one consistent comment I heard while reading the reviews was that if it weren't for the price they would all be shooting the 41. I have to admit the price did cause me to pause right up until I shot one. I own guns from Glock, Taurus, Sig Sauer, Ruger, Colt and Remington and nothing I own or have ever shot compares to the enjoyment I have gotten from shooting this gun. Also, by far one of the easiest guns to clean and maintain. Obviously way more money than the competition but well worth the money. Besides in my opinion, the competion for this gun is not the Ruger or the Browning but instead some of the european target pistols. It best feature in my opinion is the trigger. Breaks like a thin glass rod...

I've owned this gun for over 6 months and fired it over 2500 times. It was my first 22LR and first Semi Auto. First the negatives. This gun is EXTREMELY sensitive to the brand and type of ammo loaded. In my experience, only one brand and type of ammo (CCI Standard Velocity) fires reliably in this gun. All other ammo I've tried, (subsonic, standard velocity, and high velocity) either misfires or the shell casings fail to eject and jam. Fortunately, the CCI SV is widely available. This gun has a large contoured grip that fits large hands well. The partridge front sight is easy to see and use. The trigger action is light and reliable and the gun is extremely accurate. Cleaning it is a pleasure as well.. press down on the trigger guard releases the barrel for removal and cleaning. In addition, S&W offers a longer barrel size that can be purchased and easily interchanged with the 5.5" barrel. Many consider the Model 41 to be the finest 22LR available and I would tend to agree. Just be sure you are able and willing to acquire the only brand and type of ammo that it shoots reliably...
