I enjoyed shooting the 6" 6 shot 617 at a pistol range several times before purchasing my 617; a 4" 10 shot model. Upon purchasing the gun, I found the supplied grips were too small for my hand and I replaced them with a pair of Pacmayr grips that I prefer. Pros: This gun shoots any ammo reliably, in SA or DA mode. While I shot accurately with the 6" version, I haven't been as accurate with the 4" version. Perhaps the fact that the 4" version has the front Patridge black sight closer to the rear sight than the 6" version makes a difference. I find it difficult to line up the front and rear sights accurately with teh 4" version. The gun is extremely quiet (even with HV ammo) with very light recoil. My only gripe is that 22LR ammo, by nature, is very dirty, and with 10 chambers to clean, cleaning the 617 10 shot is a major chore compared to cleaning my 41 semi auto 22LR. Overall, an extremely reliable revolver that shoot anything you give it. But it's a filthy mess to clean, and your hands are likely to be a filthy mess after an outing at the pistol range. If you can deal with that, its a truly fine revolver, but if I had to do it again, I'd go out of my way for the 6" model... |
