I stopped at a local gun shop a month ago to check out the XDM 40 after read the reviews an hearing that it was named hand gun of the year by American Rifleman. All I can say is that when I put the gun in my hand, it felt like it belonged there. The fit and finish is excellent. I wasn't planning on purchasing, but after holding it I knew it was coming home with me. I have now had the opportunity to take it to the range and put a couple hundred rounds through it. The gun is everything the reviews said it would be...smooth and accurate. I own a glock model 22, a great gun, but the XDM feels better and is more accurate. If you are looking at 40 cal pistols, you can't go wrong with this one!..

This gun is everything you read about. I initially was in the market for a .45 for home protection and fine tuning my skills at our local range. After much research on .40 vs .45 I settled on the XD M 40. I knew this would not be my last pistol so I figured what the heck. I ended up buying a FNP 45 three weeks later because my sons joined me at the range and I needed another gun. The XD M is a blast to shoot and accurate as advertised. I will not get into all the fine details many other posters get into but this gun hits what you shoot at with no misfeeds of any kind. It breaks down in seconds and you can clean it and put it back together between commercials. If you are looking to save some money go with the black version and you can pick it up for about $100 less. I like the two-tone finish but for function color should not be a deciding factor. The magazine springs are a little tight in the beginning and the included magazine loader comes in real handy. The two included magazines are top quality. If you are interested in a concealed weapon I think this gun would work fine inside the belt or close to the hip. It comes with three grip sizes but you have to punch out a pin to change the grips. I was hesitant at first trying to switch out the grips because you have to hit the pin pretty hard initially. I had to switch the grips back since then because both my sons have smaller hands and it was much easier the second time. Great purchase and I would do it all over again...
