THOMPSON/CENTER ARMS Model R55 Calssic Rifle Thompson Center Arms 5 + 1 22 Long Rifle w/Walnut Stock/Blue Barrel Sporting a full size deluxe American Walnut buttstock, the R55 Classic features a solid steel receiver, and a 22" match grade barrel which is precisely threaded into the receiver for maximum rigidity. Unlike a majority of the rimfire rifles with pressed fit and pinned barrels, the R55 Classic's precise barrel lock up, being threaded into the receiver, results in superior accuracy from shot to shot. Update-After about 12 weeks Thompson sent me a BRAND NEW in the box R-55.
They did not repair the rifle they replaced it with a new one.
So, I guess their customer service works (slowly) after all.
I never did find out what was wrong with the original rifle... |

PROS- Outstanding accuracy, fit, finish, and appearance. When it works.
CONS-Very poor customer service.
I bought one of these and put a high quality scope on it. Initially this rifle would shoot well enough to enter rimfire competitions. I cleaned it after every session at the range. I started having problems after about 1000 rounds had been shot through the rifle.
The gun was gving me an unusual amount of powder and blowback when I shot it. Finally a round went off with the bolt partially open. The magazine blew out of the gun in pieces and I got afaceful of powder and brass chips.
I called Thompson twice, sent a letter, and 2 e-mails asking for help with no reply.
My dealer returned the gun for repair 8 weeks ago. I have since called Thompson and the only answer I recieved is "we are having a lot of trouble with .22's and it will take a while".
These are great guns when they work. Mine did not... |
