At the heart of the T3 is the hyper accurate cold hammer forged barrel, sturdily anchored to a silky smooth action. I bought a T3 Lite in .308 Win. because I wanted something light, and with less recoil than the heavy magnums I have been using. With Hornady Custom 150 gr SST or Winchester Supreme 150 gr Ballistic Silvertip factory loads, it will consistently shoot cloverleaf 3 shot groups at 100 yards. I haven't really done anything with a handload for it yet...and I'm not sure I can really improve on that accuracy...at least not enough that you'd really notice it for a hunting rifle. I would say it qualifies as a .75 MOA rifle with the right factory loads....it shoots everything else, including the el-cheapo Remingtons from Walmart easily within 1 1/4". I'll go ahead and work up a handload for it...a little Varget, some Berger bullets seated out to the lands...who knows what this thing can do?
The trigger is as good as any factory rifle I've seen recently, except maybe Kimber. The only complaint I have with that is that you have to remove the barrelled action from the stock to adjust the trigger and it's really only adjustable for tension (pull weight)....from 2 lb to 4 lb. It's MUCH harder to get the barrelled action seated back into the stock than it is to adjust the trigger. Mine actually adjusted to 1 lb 14 oz at the limit of adjustment and it breaks smoothly, cleanly and consistently at that weight with very minimal creep and overtravel. Very nice.
I wasn't sure about the stock when I got it...I'm not crazy about injection molded thermoplastic stocks, but this one is a glass-fiber reinforced stock and the forearm is plenty stiff. It's light and well-balanced....easy to carry one-handed and is quick to shoulder and get a cheek weld.
I also wasn't too sure about the plastic (polycarbonate) magazine, but I actually like it. It's light and quiet and seems to be as sturdy as a steel magazine....maybe more sturdy. I don't see bent magazine lips being an issue with it. The real problem is that they are kind of hard to find and expensive....expect to pay about $60-$70 for a spare.
The jury is still out for me on the scope rings. I'm still using the milled receiver rail and the dovetail rings that came with it.....so far they seem to be holding zero just fine....but they look too much like a .22 rimfire dovetail arrangement to me. I just don't see how they could be as strong as the normal Weaver style mounts or even a Ruger style integral mount. I'm thinking about ordering the DNZ Dednutz one-piece mount/rings for it.
Overall, I've spent a ton of time and money on gunsmithing and handloading on rifles that cost a good bit more than this one to achieve the same accuracy the T3 gives right out of the box....with factory ammo.
I'm impressed. For the money, this one's going to be tough to beat. I have Remington, Kimber, Ruger and Weatherby rifles also, but this one has become my go-to deer rifle. I have taken 4 whitetails with it so far this season and shot shot impressive 100y groups with factory ammo. I'll be keeping this one... |

What a great gun! Í bought one of these in .308 as my first centerfire rifle. I chose it because it's fairly inexpensive but backed up by huge names in the industry (Beretta, Sako), and chose the .308 because I believe it's a very accurate round with plenty of versatility.
I mounted a Nikon Buckmasters 4-12x50 on a Talley 2-piece base and medium fixed rings and, on my second trip to the range I was able to put 3 shots in a single hole @ 100yds. They measured 5/8" center to center! My next rifle will be a Tikka too; I hope they bring back the .338 Win Mag in stainless!!!!!.. |
