After two years of begging and proving himself on the range. I let My now 14 year old son take his beloved 223wssm into the woods for the Wisconsins gun deer hunting season. His first year with his 270 winchester he put his deer down where it stood with one shot. Second year same story, he has become a very good shooter, and hunter. He has learned to place his shots well and take his time. About 5 hours into opening day I heard the report of his 223wssm and new immediately it was him. I waited for about 30 seconds and my phone rang. His words, "Dad it fell down right when I shot". I got up walked over to him and sure enough, about 90 yards from his stand was a huge doe on the ground. This round did what his 270 round did. I was shocked, and very impressed. I know what he will be using next year if he so chooses... |

I purchased a Winchester Model 70 in this 223WSSM four years ago for my then 8 year old son. The only manufacturer of this round is Winchester. My son LOVES this gun, LOVES this round. We have a 300 yard silhoette range along with a 100 yard target range. After sighting in the rifle 4 years ago with this ammo. It is a super accurate round, and it hits like a 260 Remington. I only let him shoot silhoettes at 100 yards until this year. He passed the hunter safty, so I cut him loose. He and the gun have developed such a relationship that he was hitting silhoettes at 300 the same as he was hitting them at 100. He didn\'t even have to make an adjustment in the BDC reticle of his scope. It is a very flat shooting hard hitting round. after 4 years of shooting, the gun shows no wear. He has not had to change any settings on his Nikon scope. If your looking for a execellent all around cartridge for an excellent all around rifle, you can stop looking because this is it!!!
