Great ammo, extremely accurate. My 460xvr has an 8 3/8" barrell. The recoil is surprisingly managable with this round. Last year I took a large 6 pt whitetail at 40 yds. It knocked him off his feet and he was dead before he hit the ground. This was my first deer with a pistol & now I am hooked. It is definitly an attention getter at the range. The only downside to this round is it is difficult to find. I would excessively stock up on it if I ever find it again. - R. K.
I've used this ammo on whitetails and it was DRT (Dead Right There) at 175 yards. I actually shoot this ammo in a T/C Encore 20" rifle barrel. I've chronographed the ammo out of this rifle at 2700FPS with an extreme spread of only 12FPS. Excellent ammo, does one inch three shot groups at 100 yards, too! - V. W.
I love this round! I have the S&W 460XVR w/8 3/8 barrel. I took two whitetail this year with this pistol and using this round. The first deer was about 30 yards away no rest. The second at 220 yards using a walking stick for a rest. Extreemly accurate shooting round. Neither deer knew what hit them. Both fell in their tracks. Recomend this round over any other!!! - S. T.
This Hornady 200 GR load is a great load to practice with on the 460 S&W. I have the 5 inch model and use the gun for bear protection in Alaska. Price point and performance of this Hornady round make it a good value AND it is a clean shooter - especially compared to some of the 45 Long Colts. Recoil is manageable and not noticeably different than the 454 Casuall so why bother with that round. - K. W.
I rented a S&W 460 5inch barrels recently while out on the West Coast; had seen an article about the 460 and 500 S&W mags and thought I'd try it out. The 460 appears more versatile because of the different loadings you can shoot through it (45 Colt, 454 Casull, and 460 S&W Mag). I can tell you this; recoil with this load is very manageable (more than I thought it would be), and accuracy is 5-7 inches offhand at 25 yds (about as good as I can shoot) without a rest. After the first two shots I turned around to my buddy to get his reaction, and ALL the shooters from the other lanes were gathered behind us wide-eyed! Needless to say, we went through a box of 20 in no time. This guy's a real hoot to shoot, and I have no doubt it would drop a big whitetail buck in his tracks. Barrel's about the right size, and grips help manage the recoil. The muzzle blast actually thumps your chest noticeably; double up on hearing protection..... - R. D.
