Before buying this particular rifle I checked out all of the data on it. One guy told me that was no advantage to the 5r barrel. After receiving this rifle I put to the test. I compared it's accuracy with a Remington PSP .308. With a regular barrel. Both rifles were almost the same at 200yrds. At 300 yards the 5r made a difference. A 2 inch group's to a less than 1 inch group. I love it. It's well worth the extra money. Dealing with Able Ammo made it easier to get exactly what I wanted instead of settling with whats in stock. Great people to deal with. -
I am not a hunter, but I shot this gun for the first time a few weeks ago at a target. The accuracy was amazing, four shots, first one a little left of X on center, the other two just below X and one dead center X. All within a couple inches of each other. If it was your dear in the scope, you'd be eating well that week. Remember, it's a magnum, so it has some punch to it, make sure she's tight on you shoulder before pulling the trigger... -
You won\'t be sorry if you buy this gun. I put about 100 rnds through mine this week and I can\'t tell you how happy I am with every aspect of this 700. Really great groups and almost no recoil.
Thanks Remington and Ables - E. G.
I have had this rifle for a couple months now. Out of the box and the trigger weight adjusted down to about 2 pounds it was shooting 45 grain Winchester JHP\'S at 100 yards at about 3/4\". I am now hand loading for it and have it down to 1/2\" or less at 100 yards using Hornady 50 V-Max Molly coated bullets. I also put a Vortex Viper 6.5x20x44 scope on it along with a Shooters Ridge 6\" to 9\" bipod. This really is a great set up. I have taken 9 Groundhogs so far this season and 8 have been with this rifle. My furtherst shot on one has been 275 yards. While at the range I can hit the 8\" round steel plate at 300 yards 10 out of 10 times easily. I am looking to buy this same rifle in the 308 before summer is up. I had this same rifle in the 243 a few years ago that I could shoot groups at the range at 300 yards that you could cover with a quater. I wish I never sold that one. I think these rifle are great out of the box once you get the trigger adjusted down some they come at about 8 pounds from the factory and makes it very hard to shoot tight groups until you adjust it. The only other thing I would change is the stock. That is next. I hope this helps you if you are thinking of buying one. - D. R.
I have owned this rifle since 2007. I have never had a problem with this gun at all. I have killed several deer with it ranging out to 250 yards with no hesitation. This rifle is light and the action of the bolt and trigger are smooth. The barrel is treated so hunting with it in the rain is not an issue. I have a Leupold scope on my rifle and it works great. This rifle is great, but your accuracy is only as good as the optics that you have on it. I shoot Federal Fusion, Remington Core Lokt and Winchester ammunition in my rifle. My gun likes the Federal Fusion ammunition the best. There is almost no kick from this rifle and I would definitely reccomend this rifle to anyone. - C. C.
