Man, I love this pistol. I thought it would knock me on my butt. But even with a 4 5/8\" barrel length, it is a great shooti\' iron. I like the 45 long Colt cartridge and will add a carbine action rifle to go with this pistol. Sort of expensive just to plink around the range, but fun none the same. Highly recommended firearm. - R. You won't find a better derringer than the Bond Arms Texas Defender in 45 Colt/410. Don't worry about this derringer blowing apart in your hand. Be wise however and do not load the 45 Colt +P rounds in the gun. I use standard Winchester silver tips and three pellet 410 shells.
When you clean the derringer, remember there is a chamfer in the barrell and the rifling begins almost at the end of the tube. This area tends to collect powder residue. Take your time and use a QTip to swab this area out. - T. W.
I purchased this model used 10 years ago and have used it a lot over the years. I have also used Ruger, Beretta, Colt, and other SA Colt clones over the years and I keep coming back to the birds head Uberti. I like the feel and balance of the 5.5. It has never failed me with the 1000's of rounds I have put through it and with just minor tweeking it has a great action. I am now looking to sell one of my other guns to purchase a second birds head for SASS shooting. A great gun for the money. - B. B.
