Purchased XL-7 in 30-06 Cal and am impressed with the workmanship and detail on this price product. Mounted variable 3 - 9 scope and couldn't hit dirt - Had it bore sited for a second time and went back. 6 shots @ 100 yrds brought it in to a 1" group Needed it sighted at 200 so spent another 12 shots to bring it into 1 1/2" at the 200. Have taken it back to range twice - maintained zero nicely. Biggest issue was ammo, now staying with Remington at either 165 or 180 gr...

I am retired law enforcement and spent a few years as a SWAT marksman. Accuracy is important to me, but this is a hunting rifle, not a target rifle. I would not want to carry the weight of a "Target" rifle into the field. This rifle is very accurate and mine always puts the round within an inch of its mark if I do my part. Unless you're shooting squirrels for the pot with a 30-06 (?), who could ask for more. I agree that the stock is great at absorbing recoil. It has one and only one characteristic that I wish it did not. When carried on "Safe" the bolt will not lock up like it does on other rifles. This feature is safer for unloading the rifle, but it is a nuisance when you're carrying the rifle over your shoulder and the bolt pops open (often) on its own. I have to carry the rifle in this position with nothing in the chamber (lost cartridges) and had to secure the bolt closed with a good rubber band running from the trigger guard to the bolt handle. Nevertheless, for the money it's a great rifle for hunting. The new reduced load cartridges allow you to carry ammunition for close shots (125 gr) or long shots (standard loads)...

I recently purchased this rifle, I compared the Mossberg and Stevens Rifles to this one. I can say with a doubt this is the best comparable rifle at this price. It features a removable clip which is nice If you get a spring rattle, (only the XL7 offeres this) every bolt that screws into the stock is backed by steel pillars to prevent stripping. The trigger pull is easly adjustable with only an allen wrench. It has an extremely comfortable butt pad. I shoot factory 165gr soft nose bullets and the accuracy is 2nd to none. I added a Bushnell 4x12x40 scope(Weaver base included with the gun) a quality folding bipod and a sling. I love It and would recommend this rifle to anyone who wants a quality rifle. The only drawback is Marlin does not offer this model in short actions, so sorry to all the 308 & 243 lovers...
