I give this Shotgun 4.5 star it's a great gun that has never failed me or missed it's target however the finish will rust if not kept cleaned properly but other wise a great gun for the price and a great starter gun for kids.(got this gun when i was 11 still have and am now 20). - J. M.
I got this shotgun about a month ago as a gift and let me tell you it is really fun to shoot. I have shot about 300 rds (2-3/4 inch)and it handles great. This 20 gauge is great for skeet shootin. The trigger pull is nice and smooth. The pump action is clean. If you are lookin for a good 20 gauge that gives you more \"BANG 4 UR BUCKS\" look no longer buy this gun. - R. M.
Personally, i believe that this ia an excellent firearm for the money i use mine for home protection and it shoots excellent (not that I've had to use it in that sense) but from shooting around its as Mossberg so perfectly worded it a 'Workhorse'. It slso breaks down excellently on the inside. - C. H.
I bought the model 88, 12 gauge pump shotgun a few years back for $200.00 brand new. At that time, they included both the 18 1/2" and 21" barrels. It also came with standard as well as riot (Pistol type) Stocks. I initially used it with 21" barrel and standard stock, and it was a great shooter, accurate to 100 yds. with standard Buckshot, and more precise with steel bird shot, but I needed a home defense weapon that had a bit more kick than my S&W 38 special. I installed the 18 1/2" barrel and the small pistol grip riot style stock. I keep it hidden but in easy reach if needed for home defense. It's loaded with Brenneke Tactical Home Defense Shotgun slugs. They reach close to 1300 fps. at 25 Yds. and an incredible 1200 Ft./Lbs. of Energy at the same distance. . - A. S.
It's very good for the price - about what I expected from Mossberg. Pump action isn't as smooth as I would have liked, but it does the job. It also holds up fairly well over time. The only problem is the firing mechanism. A safety device allows the hammer to fall only halfway if you don't pull the trigger hard enough. It's designed as a safety device so that it won't fire if dropped, but is kind of a pain. However apparently you can buy the newer trigger groups which have that problem fixed. They may come standard with the new Mavericks - I'm not sure.
Overall a good shotgun for a low price. Unless you're shooting in competitions or are really picky about quality...it should do fine. - S. W.
