Weaver designation of 2-piece base means it requires two (2) 2-piece bases to mount a scope.
Weaver's one-piece base is designed to hold two rings to mount the scope

Nobody makes scope bases to fit as many guns as Weaver. Their precision built bases are machined to tight tolerances for a custom fit, and fight the effects of recoil with a square cut notch that mates to the sturdy cross bolt in every Weaver detachable ring. Custom hardened fastening screws come with every Weaver base.
